Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 23rd January 2026

These Terms and Conditions set out the basis on which Silkstone Van Man (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides removal and related services to you (“you”, “the customer”). By accepting a quotation, making a booking, or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

1. Definitions

  • Goods: All items, belongings, furniture, and effects to be moved, packed, stored, dismantled, or handled by us.
  • Services: Domestic removals, office removals, man and van services, packing or unpacking (if agreed), storage, and any other services agreed in writing.
  • Quotation / Estimate: A written estimate provided based on the information supplied by you.

2. Quotations and Pricing

2.1 All quotations are estimates unless expressly stated as a fixed price.

2.2 Quotations are based on the accuracy and completeness of the information you provide, including item lists, access details, distances, stairs, parking, and time required.

2.3 Prices do not include (unless stated):

  • Parking charges
  • Congestion, toll, clean air or emissions zone charges
  • Waiting time caused by delays outside our control
  • Permit fees

2.4 Additional charges may apply if the job differs from the original description or takes longer than estimated.

3. Hourly Work and Minimum Charges

3.1 Hourly bookings are subject to a minimum charge depending on whether a one‑person or two‑person service is booked.

3.2 If a minimum number of hours is booked, that minimum will be charged even if the full time is not used.

3.3 Fixed‑price jobs are based on the declared volume and access conditions. Changes may result in price adjustments.

4. Packing and Customer Responsibilities

4.1 Unless a packing service has been agreed in writing, all goods must be properly packed, boxed, wrapped, and protected prior to our arrival.

4.2 We are not liable for damage caused by inadequate or improper packing carried out by you or on your behalf.

4.3 Fragile or high‑value items must be clearly identified before the move.

5. Additional or Undeclared Items

5.1 Any additional goods not included in the original quotation must be disclosed as soon as possible.

5.2 We reserve the right to revise the quotation accordingly and are not obliged to move additional items until a revised price is agreed.

6. Access, Parking, and Permits

6.1 You are responsible for ensuring suitable access and legal parking at collection and delivery addresses.

6.2 Where parking permits are required, these must be arranged by you in advance.

6.3 Any fines, penalties, or additional charges incurred due to inadequate parking arrangements will be passed on to you.

7. Dismantling and Reassembly

7.1 All items should be dismantled prior to the move unless dismantling has been agreed in advance.

7.2 Any dismantling or reassembly carried out by us is done at your risk and may incur additional charges.

7.3 We accept no liability for items that fail or are damaged during or after dismantling or reassembly.

8. Electrical and Plumbing Appliances

8.1 We may, at our discretion, disconnect and reconnect freestanding appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers.

8.2 We do not accept responsibility for faults, leaks, or failures following reconnection.

9. Prohibited and Dangerous Items

9.1 We will not transport:

  • Flammable, explosive, or hazardous materials
  • Open paint tins, oils, fuels, or chemicals
  • Any items we reasonably believe to be unsafe or illegal

9.2 You must inform us in advance if any restricted items are present.

10. Ownership of Goods

You confirm that all goods moved belong to you or that you have authority to move them.

11. Liability and Damage

11.1 Our liability is limited to loss or damage caused by our negligence.

11.2 We are not liable for damage:

  • Resulting from customer instructions given against our advice
  • Caused by inadequate or improper packing carried out by you or on your behalf
  • To items that are inherently fragile, defective, or have pre-existing damage
  • Arising from delays or access issues outside our reasonable control

11.3 We hold Goods in Transit insurance which provides limited cover for customers’ items while they are in our care during the move.

11.4 This insurance is subject to policy limits, exclusions, and conditions, including but not limited to inadequate packing, fragile items, and items of high value unless declared in advance.

11.5 We strongly recommend that you arrange suitable home contents and/or specialist insurance to provide additional cover beyond our policy limits.

12. Method and Route

We reserve the right to choose the method and route used to carry out the services.

13. Delays and Readiness

13.1 You must ensure goods are ready to move at the agreed date and time.

13.2 Delays caused by lack of readiness may result in:

  • Additional hourly charges, or
  • The need to reschedule the job

14. Payment Terms

14.1 A deposit (normally 25% unless agreed otherwise) may be required to secure a booking.

14.2 The remaining balance is payable immediately on completion of the job by bank transfer or cash.

14.3 We reserve the right to retain goods until full payment has been received.

15. Cancellations and Deposits

15.1 Deposits are non‑refundable except in cases of unforeseen circumstances or force majeure.

15.2 If at least 7 days’ notice is given, we will attempt to reschedule, subject to availability.

15.3 Cancellations within 7 days may result in forfeiture of the deposit.

16. Entire Agreement

These Terms and Conditions, together with the quotation, form the entire agreement between us and supersede all prior discussions.

Any variations must be agreed in writing.

17. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

18.1 Any prices, timings, or examples shown on our website, social media platforms, or advertisements (including Google or Facebook) are indicative only and do not constitute a binding offer.

18.2 All services are subject to availability, access conditions, and confirmation following receipt of full job details.
